The following restaurants are ones that are also frequented and recommended by locals. All restaurants mentioned in this site pass our rigorous standards for quality.
They are all family owned. To the best of our knowledge, these do NOT offer fresh, local agricultural products in their menu, which is what has bumped them to our second restaurant page, but they have great food and a small-town vibe.
Big Dogs Deli
Big Dogs Deli is located in the Grantsville shopping plaza in Grantsville, MD.
Big Dogs Deli has become somewhat notorious in the area for the quality and quantity of their offerings. They are a little more expensive than a typical sandwich shop. But at the same time, some of their offerings are large enough for a second meal.
Big Dogs Deli offers a variety of sandwiches, salads, fries, pizza, and of course gourmet hot dogs, among other things.
It has a few tables to sit and eat both inside and outside. It is a locally owned business.

Casselman Restaurant
Casselman Restaurant is located in Grantsville, MD. It is an iconic restaurant to locals.
Housed in the historic Casselman Inn, this is a family-owned restaurant that features down-home Mennonite-inspired food. Many chain restaurants claim to make food “from scratch”, but they really use pre-made frozen items and mixes. At Casselman you will find real cooking.
You can also purchase fresh-made baked goods to take along home. And, of course, there is the ambience of dining in the Casselman Inn.
They feature a buffet on Friday nights but be advised to go early because our experience has been that they don’t restock it later in the evening to avoid food waste.
The restaurant places high emphasis on cleanliness and food safety and employs likeminded staff.
This restaurant is one you don’t want to miss. Be advised that Casselman Restaurant and Casselman Creamery are two completely different restaurants.

Tomanetti’s Pizzeria Italian Eatery
Tomanetti’s is located in downtown Oakland, MD. They have been a local favorite for decades.
Tomanetti’s serves up a variety of Italian dishes, including spaghetti, ravioli, Alfredo, stuffed shells, and, of course, pizza. They feature shrimp, mussel, and clam dishes, in addition to chicken.
They are located on the other side of Maryland Hwy (Route 135), which is mainly a residential area, so they can be easy to miss. So, be sure to set your GPS.
They are a local, family-owned business.
