Popular Local Restaurants Serving Local Produce
The following restaurants are all family-owned restaurants, frequented by Garrett County residents, which use fresh, local produce in their menu items in season. In order to be added to our list, restaurants need to meet our high standards for quality, safety, and taste.
Ace’s Run Restaurant and Pub
Located on Deep Creek Lake, Ace’s features chef prepared comfort foods. It is a strong local favorite and is often considered the place families go to celebrate special events.
Aces uses fresh produce and fresh farmer eggs in their dishes as often as possible. They also provide local maple syrup for breakfast menu items. They are strong supporters of local agriculture, and they do a great deal to support the local community.

Siriannis
If you want a taste of rural Appalachia, you have to try Sirianni’s Cafe. It’s located in Davis, West Virigina on the main road into town. As a general rule, you will find a line all the way down the street to get in.
Sirianni’s is a pizza cafe. It is locally owned, and their pizzas and other menu items are all made from scratch, using fresh ingredients, including local produce whenever possible.

Brenda’s Pizzeria
Another recommended Italian restaurant is Brenda’s Pizzeria at Deep Creek Lake. Also using fresh dough and fresh ingredients in all of their recipes, we would consider Brenda’s a five-star Italian restaurant.
In addition to pizza, Brenda’s also features a variety of Italian dishes and salads. Again, they use local produce in their cuisine.

Alder Bistro & Bar
Alder Bistro is located in downtown Oakland on Alder Street. They utilize fresh, local produce in season and also local cheese.
Great food and incredible ambiance. We would describe this one as a local gem. This is definitely a must try!

Firefly Farms Market
Firefly Farms Market features homemade cheese, wine, and gourmet sandwiches made with local produce, including freshly grown mushrooms, when possible.
One of their focus offerings is local goat cheese produced just down the street at the Firefly Cheese Factory.
Firefly also has a gift shop on the premises to add to the experience.

Casselman Creamery
Casselman Creamery is famous for their cow cheese made there on the premises with milk from a local farm.
They offer numerous menu items at their Farmer’s Table Eatery, many of which feature their fresh cheeses. It is down-home Mennonite cooking, so you know it is good.
They have a gift shop as well, where they offer many varieties of cheeses all of which are available at the Creamery.
Their cheese is outstanding and so are the foods at their eatery! This is something you do not want to miss!

Cornucopia Cafe
Cornucopia Cafe is located in Grantsville, MD next to the Spruce Forest Artisian Village. They feature gourmet sandwiches, salads and entries such as Lobster Mac & Cheese.
Like the other restaurants on our list above, they utilize fresh local produce in their dishes and also local goat and cow cheeses.

Trader’s Coffee House
Trader’s Coffee House is located next to Deep Creek Lake. Offering more than just coffee, they also have sandwiches, breakfast favorites, and fresh pastries.
Traders utilizes fresh, local, farmer eggs and some local produce in their offerings.
Breakfast affords the opportunity to try some real local maple syrup.

A Few Additional Local Favorites Worth Mentioning
Although the following restaurants don’t utilize local foods in their offerings as far as we know, they are still favorites of area residents and worth visiting.



Penn Alps Restaurant
Penn Alps is located in the Spruce Forest Artisian Village next to the Cornucopia Cafe. Although Penn Alps has an excellent regular menu, they are best known for their buffets and salad bar.
The restaurant itself is in the old Casselman Inn.
Buffets are only available on the weekends, and you should check their website for days and times.
They have a great gift shop which is loaded with crafts, many of which are made by locals.
And they carry local jams, jellies, honey, and syrup for sale.

Englander’s Antique Grill and Soda Fountain
Englander’s is located in downtown Oakland and has been in business for a very long time. They still make old-fashioned milkshakes at their original soda counter from back mid 1900’s.
The offer Appalachian Buckwheat Cakes, which are a local favorite and a variety of other American fare dishes, many from yester-year.
Be aware that they charge for meat separately with their buckwheat cakes.
They are located in the back of an antique store, which was once the iconic Englander’s Pharmacy.

Wild Wind Cafe
Wild Wind Cafe is only open for special events, or they can be booked for your own special event.
They are located in a charming little country field which is full of flowers in the summer.
The restaurant is small but would be perfect for a family gathering.
The offer either rental of the restaurant and kitchen, or they have “Tea Party” packages.
Additionally, they offer a Picnic Package for two adults.
